Ryan’s EK9 engined Honda Civic

Please Note: This post is in a slightly different format to my previous entries. This is mainly because this was an impromptu photo session, rather than a planned photo shoot. Boredom led us to a session of spirited driving, which in turn led to some photos of Ryan’s awesome EK. (The White Pulsar GTI-R belongs to Steve, and the Blue S14a is mine). This is also my excuse for the dirty cars!

Ryan’s EK is a clear example of Function over Form. He has chosen parts with emphasis on performance, rather than appearance. This is definitely not a trailer queen.

His green EK started life with an SOHC 1.4 litre engine, but this was soon swapped out for the legendary EK9 engine, the B16B (with LSD). To go with his car’s new engine, he further improved the performance by swapping the standard exhaust manifold with a HKS 4-2-1 Super Header. He added an HKS Flat Panel Filter to the standard air box, as well as installing a Spoon Direct Airflow Pipe. An EK9 exhaust B-pipe was installed, along with a Spoon N1 muffler. These breathing modifications made a large improvement on the B16’s standard performance. Finally, Ryan added an MFactory 4.928 Final Drive and MFactory lightened flywheel to really focus the car towards acceleration.

In the Handling and Braking department, Ryan opted for a full 282mm Front Brake Conversion from the Honda Legend. This drastically improved the braking performance of the EK. The car is fully stripped with a Bride bucket seat (with a Takata harness strapping the driver in place), and a carbon sunroof bung. These weight saving modifications improve the braking, handling and acceleration of the little civic. Suspension wise, the car is running Skunk2 full Coilovers, and a Cusco cage, bracing the key points of the chassis.

Appearance wise, only a few subtle changes have been made. The car sits on Spoon SW388s (weight savings are an additional bonus), as well as a Spoon plug cover, and an EK9 cluster. A Sparco steering wheel with Snap-Off Boss was added to improve the appearance of the interior, and the feel of the car’s steering.

I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking; enjoy!
