After thoroughly destroying the tyres on the Nissan, it was time to find replacements. I’d heard quite a bit about Federal 595 RS-Rs (a high performance, road legal trackday tyre), and after getting numerous positive reviews from my owners club, I decided to give them a go. Camskill had the 255/35/18s on offer, so I bought a pair for my 10J Work Meisters. At the same time, I bought some 17×9 +15 Enkei RP-N1s which already had some 595 RS-Rs fitted (pictured).
They run a bit wider than normal (similar to R888s, Azenis, etc), so if you’re running really close arch clearance with your existing tyres, bare in mind that if you’re replacing them with 595 RS-Rs, you may run in to issues. Also if you’re using them on a daily driver, be aware that their cold/wet weather performance may not be as good as a decent all-season road tyre.
After chucking the Enkeis on, I was pretty shocked. The difference in both traction and grip between the RSRs, and my (albeit very worn) Michelins was night and day. Both launching and cornering are transformed; I can get on the power out of corners much earlier without risk of oversteer; they make for a more confident, much faster driving experience. I’m sure once you get some proper heat in to them on track, they’d be even better.
In short, very very happy. Click the pic below to see full specs on the Federal website:
