Growing tired of his 1100cc Ford Fiesta, John bought this Toyota Glanza V in May, 2005 from Newera Imports. It was promptly put on a boat from Japan and landed on his doorstep in June of the same year. The little 1300cc turbo Glanza came equipped with 15″ Zeit SS alloy wheels, Tein coilovers, a Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust, a Blitz boost gauge, and an HKS mushroom filter.
Although John was happy with his new car, he felt it needed updating; he replaced the dated standard orange indicators with 98/99 spec clear lenses. This small modification hugely improved the overall frontend look of the EP91.
As with all project cars, the modification ball started to roll, and John’s wallet took a beating. Aswell as updating the looks with a carbon fibre bonnet, new headlights, a facelift front bumper, and SSR Type C alloy wheels. John added an impressive list of parts to increase both the engine and suspension performance of his car. Breathing and cooling was improved with an Apexi Power Intake, Blitz LM front mount intercooler, a Wicked EP Decat, an HKS actuator (set at 0.8 bar), a GReddy Profec E-01 boost controller and screen, and an HKS SSQV dump valve. A Walbro 255lph fuel pump was installed to compensate for the extra boost.
Suspension and braking was improved with a Carbing 3 point front strut brace, a Toyota 3 point rear strut brace, a Cusco panhard rod, an anti-lift plate kit, 3G 10 groove brake discs, Motul RBF600 brake fluid, and Mintex 1144 pads. John further improved the handling and response of his Glanza by gutting the rear interior.
To monitor his precious engine, John invested in a Defi control unit (II), Defi boost pressure and oil temperature gauges, and a Defi Link display unit. An HKS turbo timer was installed to adequately cool the engine after a long run, aswell as a Road Angel to protect his license.
This Glanza has a very bright future, with a TD04 turbo kit waiting to be installed, aswell as a Greddy Emange (Blue), and 330cc injectors. Once fitted, these parts will give this EP91 a formiddable power:weight ratio, making it one of the finest looking, and best performing Glanzas in the country.
